At the foot of the Nigardsbreen Glacier, Jostedalsbreen National Park, Norway

The Nigardsbreen Glacier is a western arm of the Jostedal Glacier, the biggest glacier on mainland Europe, and part of the Jostedalsbreen National Park. To reach it, you can either take a tourist boat over the Nigardsbrevatnet, or you can hike the 2.5km trail around the lake. It was still early in the day, so we choose the latter option. The trail was advertised as an easy 60 minute hike, but when we finally reached the glacier after nearly 2 hours in the hot morning sun, we were seriously thinking of taking the boat for our way back.
